Over the years there have been times that people have asked me to pray specifically for their “Peace of Mind.” After a bit of prayer I respectfully ask a few of the questions, “When do you think you lost it? What circumstances happened, what situations changed, what decisions did you make that caused you to lose it in the first place? Did you ever really have it?” There are a variety of answers I receive. Family dynamics, relationships, not being in fellowship, distancing oneself from people that genuinely care about you, being too busy with life, forsaking a genuine prayer life and time in the Word, have been many of the factors. The enemy delights in distracting us from the very things that anchor our hearts in God’s truth. Often, what begins as a small compromise or a season of neglect slowly becomes a pattern that robs us of the peace Christ freely offers. Peace of mind is not found in perfect circumstances but in a steadfast relationship with the One who never changes. The Lord has never stopped pursuing His children, even when they have wandered from Him. His invitation has always been the same: “Come to Me,” and He remains faithful to receive those who draw near to Him with humble hearts. We all want calmness, peace, and acceptance in our lives, but how willing are we to seek God for His guidance and wisdom, and then be obedient to what He says? It is written in *James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help]…* Feeling stuck in life or in a situation can sometimes lead to isolation, confusion, and even separation from intimate fellowship with the Lord Jesus. If you are a child of God and are doing anything that is contrary to His Word, you will not have Peace of Mind. If you feel hopeless or lost, you can find rest, comfort, and Peace of Mind by the power of the Holy Spirit by being intentional in seeking God. The questions that we really need to address are these: If God says it is wrong, are you willing to walk away from it? If God says stop, will you? If God says to do something different, will you be obedient to His voice? It is God’s promise of His presence that gives me the strength to walk forward in faith and do what He has called me to do to have the peace that I so desperately desire. God is our refuge, our strength, our present help in trouble, our Comforter, our Counselor, and so much more. My fellow saints, to get the Peace of Mind that you yearn for, be obedient to God’s Word and sincere in your relationship with the Prince of Peace. It really is about complete surrender to the Lordship of Jesus, and when you do, you will have the Peace of Mind that you desire. Remember, the question is not, “Does God speak?” The real question that all Christians must ask themselves is, are you listening for His voice in the stillness, and if you were to hear God speak, are you willing to do what He tells you to do, whether you like it or not? No matter where you have been, what mistakes you have made, or how far you think you have drifted, the grace of God is still reaching for you today. There is a place for every broken heart, every weary soul, every doubting believer, and every person longing to experience the peace that only Jesus can give. I plead with you not to allow pride, fear, guilt, or shame to keep you from running into the loving arms of the Savior, because His mercy is greater than your past and His peace is greater than your pain. If you have wandered off, even a little, come back to Him, seek Him with all your heart, and let us also encourage one another as we walk together in faith until the Peace of God rules and reigns in every area of our lives.
