For those who don’t know me personally or understand my family dynamics, I feel led to give you a little insight. There are different challenges that we struggle through on a regular basis that are overwhelming and exhausting at times for my daughter, son-in-law, and I. There are four children in our home that have specific special needs, all a little different, but still a lot to deal with day in and day out. It is literally a full time job for my daughter and I and we are thankful that DJ works from home. We are so busy helping the children learn how to live in a world that doesn’t understand them that it leaves little time for any of us to do much else effectively. Trying to balance the children’s needs and our financial responsibilities as well as other obligations before us is not an easy task. There are days when the weight of these responsibilities feels almost more than we can bear, yet God’s faithfulness has never failed to meet us in our weakness to help us fulfill the calling that He has blessed us with. Even in the most difficult moments, we are continually reminded that He has entrusted these precious lives to our care for a purpose greater than ourselves. Though the path is often lonely and misunderstood, we remain committed to walking it with faith, trusting that the Lord will supply every need according to His riches in glory. Our main goal is to live out in our home what is written in *Deuteronomy 6:6 And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then] 7 You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.* After much prayer and discussion, a few years back, the decision was made to homeschool the kids with Christian curriculum to make sure that they learn more about the world in proper perspective and keep them from being indoctrinated and brainwashed with thoughts and cares that are not from God. The Bible is our Document of Authority and that is what we use first to teach, educate, and train them in truth and understanding. Our goal is to help them to know both sides of the issues of our society so that their ideas, opinions, and beliefs are Biblically founded and they can reason from the scriptures and not argue from them. As I watch my daughter with the children I am reminded of what Charles Spurgeon said, “You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, training them up in God’s fear, minding the house, and making your household a church for God as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of Hosts.” At the beginning of the day we pray, throughout the day we worship, in our interactions we discuss scripture regularly. We evangelize when the opportunity presents itself to all who cross our path, and as a family we minister together in activities such as our church potluck, and our Iron Sharpens Iron spiritual support group on Sunday evenings. Our lives are consumed with what we believe God has called us to do to fulfill His purpose in the lives of those in our home and those that we interact with. Due to the special needs of our family we have had more than twenty different therapy workers come into our home over the years where the majority of them have not known Jesus, and whom we’ve been able to share the Gospel with. Our prayer is simple, “Dear Lord, please help us to prepare and train the children in our home to be warriors for the battle that is raging around us, and please open the heart’s and mind’s of all those who we interact with to be open to not only hear the Good News but to receive it as well. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, Amen.” As we continue this journey, we humbly ask for your prayers, encouragement, and support as the Lord leads. There are times when the road feels long and the burdens seem heavy, but a kind word, a prayer, or a reminder that others are standing with us strengthens our resolve more than you may realize. We believe with all our hearts that God is using the trials we endure to accomplish His eternal purposes, and we remain hopeful because our confidence rests in Him alone. Thank you for taking the time to hear our family’s story, and may the Lord richly bless you as together we seek to be faithful in the work He has entrusted to each of us in this season.
My BeLoved, may the grace and peace of the Lord Jesus, the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. In Christ Love, douglas. HE>i. pastord.blog
