The House and Senate Have Fallen—But God Is Still on His Throne

To be clear. Before the election I was reading my Bible with fervency, and now after the election I will read it with just as much fervency and probably, even a little more. Nothing changed that God did not know was coming.

I would like to emphasize that God’s standards apply to Republicans and Democrats alike. Republicans are not automatically righteous because they identify as conservative, and Democrats are not beyond God’s mercy because they hold different political positions. God’s authority is not determined by the political party that wins an election. And sometimes He allows the people to get what they want even when He knows it is not good for them.

Certain things happened in this election, good from some people’s perspective and some horribly bad from others. To me it is evident that the enemy is constantly working at dividing our nation in half over one thing or another. As we look at the numbers of those who voted, it is easy to see where a majority of people stand on important issues.

We must remember that elections are not simply about political victories and defeats; they are also reflections of the values, priorities, and direction a nation is choosing. Regardless of which party holds power, God has not surrendered His authority, nor has His standard of righteousness changed. I often pray about what is written in Romans 13:1 Let every person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. For there is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God’s appointment. What we celebrate as a nation, what we tolerate, and what we choose to defend matter deeply to Him and whether or not we like it, we will suffer from the consequences of our actions and behaviours when they go against His standards and principles.

Believe it or not there are many Americans celebrating today, and to me this is heartbreaking over a few specific issues. They are rejoicing for the hope to mutilate child who have mental health issues, they are rejoicing in the hope that they have a better chance to have a legal “right” to kill babies in the womb, pre-born humans, and possible uthenasia to the sick and elderly. The Bible explains that these things are so wrong, not only in the eyes of Christians but more importantly in the eyes of God. The world as we know it is changing as people are believing the lies of the media and those who want to depopulate the planet thinking that the taking of a life is women’s health care, and affirming mental health problems is love.

I believe that God is in control and that is why I fear the judgment that is to come. Frederick Douglas said, “Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them.”

With Democrats taking control of both the House and the Senate, the consequences for Republicans are significant politically, but there is a much greater consequence that we should consider from God’s perspective. Political influence, leadership, and authority are temporary gifts, and every person entrusted with them will ultimately answer to God for how they used them. Republicans who have campaigned on protecting the unborn must examine whether their actions have matched their promises, while Democrats who gain the power to shape laws must recognize that political victory does not excuse policies that disregard the sanctity of human life. God does not judge according to party affiliation, election victories, or public approval; He judges the heart, the motives, and the actions of every individual.

I have been told that “God does not care about America, anymore than He cares for China or Canada.” And that “We are not special”. I believe that God does care about not only the U.S. but for the entire world for that is why He sent His Son to die for our sins.

I also believe that as we look to the scriptures we can see times when God held back what He said would happen because of prayer so that is why I believe that Christians need to take action and stand up and pray for change in the course of our nation. Not only in regards to the sanctity of human life, but all the practices that go against God. We must focus on how to help those who have been deceived by the culture that we live in to see truth

It is written in 2 Samuel 24:25 David built an altar to the Lord there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord was moved [to compassion] by [David’s] prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.

We must humble ourselves as a nation, submit to God’s word, and pray fervently for those who are in positions of authority to submit to God and save our nation from the destruction we so much deserve. We cannot simply point fingers at elected officials while ignoring the responsibility God has given each of us to stand for truth, extend compassion, and defend those who cannot defend themselves. Our responsibility does not end when the election is over; it continues in our homes, our churches, our communities, and in the way we treat those with whom we disagree.

Ruth Graham said to her husband Billy, “If God doesn’t come soon and bring judgment upon the United States, He’s going to have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah!”

Our world is in crisis, we must pray for repentance. We must not allow political disappointment, anger, or fear to consume us, but instead let these things move us toward deeper faith, greater courage, and a renewed commitment to God’s truth. Even when the direction of our nation breaks our hearts, we must remember that God’s mercy is still available to those who turn to Him with sincere and repentant hearts.

Closing thought, for those that have read the end of the Bible, none of this should be a surprise, and if you haven’t, today is as good of a day as any to start searching the scriptures for truth.

No matter where you stand politically, there is still an invitation to seek God, turn from sin, and walk in His truth. We must never lose sight of the value of every human life, including those with whom we disagree, because every person is created by God and in need of His grace. There is still hope for our nation when hearts are willing to repent, when believers are willing to pray, and when we choose to live out the truth of God’s Word with both conviction and love. God Still Holds the Final Authority

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, forgive us as a nation, and more importantly as individuals for the ways we have turned away from Your truth, and give us hearts that genuinely repent and seek Your will above our own. Please move the hearts of our elected officials, regardless of political party, to defend innocent life, govern with wisdom, and recognize that their authority ultimately comes with accountability to You. Give Christians the courage to speak truth with compassion, stand up for the unborn and the vulnerable, and faithfully pray and serve those around us. Lord, have mercy on our nation, bring healing where there is division, awaken hearts to Your Word, and let our lives reflect Your righteousness, grace, and love. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, Amen.
