As Christians, there are battles that we face every day that can seem burdensome and overwhelming. When these battles overshadow our peace of mind, sometimes it seems as if there is nothing we can do but give in to the temptation or run from the fight and quit. I have come to the understanding that no matter how troublesome life becomes, there are many promises throughout the scriptures that even though they were given in specific situations, I believe that they can be applied to my life and to the lives of all believers as well. There are times when the battle becomes so intense that we may begin to question whether we have the strength to continue, but it is in those moments that we must remind ourselves that our strength does not come from within us alone. God has never asked us to fight our battles in our own strength, but to trust Him and stand firm in the promises He has given us. Even when we cannot see a way forward, we can continue to move by faith, knowing that the Lord is already present in the battle before us. I really like what is written in *Deuteronomy 20:20 “When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you…2 So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people. 3 And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; 4 for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’*  Even though these words were spoken to Israel we know that it is in alignment with what is written in *Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.* Whatever battle you are facing, whether it is health, financial, emotional, sin, and the list goes on, know that there are more with us than against us. I am encouraged by what is written in *2 Kings 6:15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.* My brethren, we must remember that we have a High Priest, the Lord Jesus, and He is with us in all that we go through. We also have angels watching over us in the battle. The words spoken in Joshua, I take to heart and I pray you do as well. It is written in *Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.* These are only a few of the promises rooted in God’s faithfulness and I am thankful that they are not dependent on human circumstances or works, only faith. My friends, if you are weary from the battle, do not believe that your weariness means that God has forgotten you or that your prayers have gone unheard. The Lord sees every tear, every struggle, and every moment when you have had to choose faith over fear, and He is compassionate toward you in the midst of it all. There is hope even when the road ahead seems uncertain, because the God who has been faithful to His people throughout Scripture is still faithful to us today. May Christians today, be more aware than ever before of our God’s constant, unconditional presence and support in each of our lives. Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep standing in faith, because the God who has carried you this far will give you the strength to finish the journey.
