Calvary Tucson church Potluck is tonight! Did you know the word “potluck” originated in 1592, describing an unplanned meal — the “luck of the pot?” This is a gathering of all ages, all walks of life, with one thing in common, a love for the Lord Jesus and His people. I have had many people ask me, “What should I bring?” My response is, “Something that you like to eat, just in case no one else brings something you like to eat.” I have heard some naysayers talk about how at some of the other Potlucks they have been to, the potluck contributors have become stingy, bringing nearly enough food to feed their own families, leaving the buffet tables prematurely bare. This has not been the case at our gatherings! A potluck is not singularly about a buffet-array, it’s about community participation and conversation, it is about the intimacy of a family gathering and of getting together in a comfortable atmosphere. I often think about how the first century church enjoyed the fellowship of those around them and the love that they were able to pour out to their brothers and sisters in Christ. I wonder how it was to be there and witness what is written about in *Acts 2:46 Day after day they met in the temple [area] continuing with one mind, and breaking bread in various private homes. They were eating their meals together with joy and generous hearts, 47 praising God continually, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord kept adding to their number daily those who were being saved.* Yes, a potluck is about gathering at a table to eat, but more importantly it is a time to participate with a community by sharing our individualized contributions, a table fare of conversation and presence. There are few opportunities these days for people who are not family to share a meal and tonight is one of those nights. This is truly an old-fashioned potluck, there’s no sign up on a spread sheet as to what to bring. Pray, and bring as the Lord leads, but one thing is for sure, the fellowship is worth the drive, especially if you’re planning on staying home alone. Bringing food to the table is really bringing what we love to whom we are to love. Another thing to keep in mind is that we will not only be gathering for physical food, we will also be feasting on the Word of God. Looking forward to seeing you there! (6 pm, Calvary Tucson East Campus children’s building, 8711 East Speedway) If for some reason you cannot make it tonight, please pray for all those in attendance, and hopefully I will see you there someday whenever the Lord leads. My BeLoved, may the grace and peace of the Lord Jesus, the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. In Christ Love, douglas. HE>i. pastord.blog
