There is a battle going on inside of every Christian. A battle between the flesh and the spirit. For the spiritually minded the battle is fierce and for the half-hearted follower, it may be almost non existent. There is a saying about 2 dogs. If 2 dogs are fighting, the one that will win is the one that is stronger, the one that you fed the most. Christians have the same type of battle going on in their lives. The question I contemplate for myself is, “What am I feeding the flesh or the spirit? What am I spending my “free time” doing? What has priority in my life, escaping the struggles of the world or focusing on the word of God to help me though those struggles? Are the shows I watch, the music I listen to, the things I read, the people I spend time with, building up my spirit or my flesh. I believe that there are 3 types of spiritual food. There is good stuff that glorifies God. There is stuff that does not glorify God, and is of the world that manifests the enemies’ work in our lives. Then there are rice cakes, stuff that has no substance, no nutritional or spiritual value one way or the other. I find clarity on what “stuff” to allow in my thoughts when I read what is written in *Philippians 4:8 Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].* I confess that I am guilty of watching things, doing things and reading things that I know Jesus would not be happy with and for that I am ashamed. I am not talking about actively participating in the deadly sins, but still, they are not glorifying God just the same. I desire to live a life that glorifies God in public and more importantly private where there is an audience of One, Him. Brethren, we must remember that we are His and we are to be holy for He is Holy. Dear Lord, please help me and all who read these words and desire to live a life of purity of mind, body, and spirit. Help us to be holy for You are Holy. Help us to bring glory to You in all that we do in public as well as private for You see all things, by the power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ precious and powerful name, and all of God’s people say, Amen. In Christ Love, douglas.
