There are people who do not walk continually in the fear of the Lord, and in all honesty, at times I am one of those people. I “DO” fear God, but not as much as I believe that I should all the time. I read a meme that said, “STOP WITH THE EXCUSES! We as Christian’s need to stop using the ‘God is still working on me’ line as an excuse to continue to justify doing the things we know are displeasing to God.” I asked a question to a few people in conversation, “Between 1-10, how much do you fear God? 10 is extreme.” Most answers were 10’s and there was even an 11, to which my initial thought was “Liar.” There are some days when I barely reach a 3. My impression is that if so many people “Fear God” to that degree then why are things in the world the way that they are? People may say that they fear God but their obedience and lifestyle do not reflect it. Everyone has little sins that they deal with and those little sins are offensive to God, even though many times we just let them slide. Charles Spurgeon wrote – “When Satan cannot get a great sin in he will let a little one in, like the thief who goes and finds shutters all coated with iron and bolted inside. At last, he sees a little window in a chamber. He cannot get in, so he puts a little boy in, that he may go round and open the back door. So the devil has always his little sins to carry about with him to go and open backdoors for him, and we let one in and say, ‘O, it is only a little one.’ Yes, but how that little one becomes the ruin of the entire man!” I would like all who have read this far to read and meditate on Proverbs 9:10, *The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence], And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.* I know of people that are so caught up in what they want, that they have forgotten about Whom they serve and why. Marriages are falling apart, children are neglected and pushed aside, broken individuals are abandoned, people are starving, sin is rampant without conviction. Pride, selfishness, and the enemy seem to be more in control than the children of God. My beloved, if you fear the Lord you will not run away from Him to satisfy your fleshly desires in hope to relieve your anxieties, you will wait for Him, you will desire to live your life to please Him, you will stay close to the heart of God and trust in His promises. My prayer for myself on a regular basis and for all who read these words is that the thought of departing and seeking after sin will be too fearful to pursue. All Christians must understand that the benefits of abiding in the shadow of the Almighty is too glorious to forsake.

I’m sure I let little sins in, like having unkind thoughts about someone, and never confess them to the Lord and ask forgiveness. I wouldn’t know how to give a rating from 1-10. It depends on the time and the day. Sometimes a5 and sometimes a 10.

I have loved and worshiped God mightily. I have been in awe of Him as a young boy was in awe of his father. I have had to view my Father as loving and gentle in order to not allow a twisted view of an angry God who rejects and beats me when I disobey. I have hallowed my Lord while also feeling extreme disappointment and disillusionment over how I think I have been unfairly treated (think Job’s conflict here). I have jumped head first into the waters and swam to the beach and approached Him, broke bread with Him, and answered honestly, reluctantly, with tears, “I like you Lord”, when He has asked me if I love Him. How I long to love and worship Him mightily once again.
