The words “Merry CHRISTmas” have a different meaning for me since becoming a Christian. One of the biggest reasons is that my awareness changed to all that they actually mean. When I was a child, I knew Christmas was a special day. We had a tree, gifts were given, I went to church all dressed up. I was told it was about Jesus, and yet there was still something missing, something I didn’t understand, the reason behind it all. After starting to read my Bible and researching the history I came to understand that it was about fulfilled prophecy and the truth of God’s promises. The Book of Isaiah was written approximately 700 years before the time of Jesus, and written in it are some of the most impactful words ever written. It is written in *Isaiah 9:6 For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.* Isaiah spoke as to the future and Luke documented it in the present as we see written in *Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people. 11 For this day in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (the Messiah).* There are different controversies about Christmas that I believe are a distraction from the real purpose of this day. Setting a day apart to celebrate the birth of Jesus has the significance of bringing His name out into the world for all to hear. My hope is that all who celebrate this day remember that the beauty of Christmas is not found in the presents wrapped in colorful paper, it is about the baby that was wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger over 2000 years ago, who was born into this world to save mankind from their sin. May all who call Jesus Lord have gratitude and reflection today by taking time to be thankful for God’s love and remember the foundations of our faith, living each day forward emulating Christ as a calling to live out our faith through actions of love, service, generosity, and goodwill towards others. I pray that you feel Jesus’ presence not only today, but everyday until His return. Happy birthday Jesus, we love You. Amen. My BeLoved, may the grace and peace of the Lord Jesus, the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. In Christ Love, douglas. HE>i. pastord.blog
