Have you ever considered quitting being a Christian? Did something happen in your life where you didn’t get what you wanted? Did God not answer your prayer according to your will but according to His? If you were to leave, where would you go? Back to where and who you were before? In all honesty I remember a time where God allowed me to have what I pleaded for and it almost destroyed me. I have known many people over the years who professed Christ as Lord and Savior, and had the walk of a follower and disciple. Many evangelized, taught their families, and ministered the gospel to others. Then they walked away for one reason or another. There are different inducements that lead people to walk away: Being hurt by other Christians. Disappointment with God. Difficulties in life. Distractions. Discouragement. Doubt. Fleshly desires. Distance or isolation due to mental or physical illness. Difficult family situations. A change in lifestyle. Drifting away in a slow fade. The primary reason is that there is a real enemy whose goal is to deceive and devour, leading as many as he can to accept a lie, causing faith to be dislodged. Jesus made a statement that caused a great number to turn from following Him. It is written in *John 6:54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.* These words were spoken and removed the fans but solidified the followers. Many were confused not realizing that believing in and fully accepting Jesus’s sacrifice and life as the source of spiritual nourishment, leading to a deep, abiding relationship with Him for eternal life, rather than literal cannibalism was the essence of His statement. Think of it like “devouring” or taking Jesus’s words and sacrifice into yourself, making His life and death essential to your own spiritual survival and growth, just as food is to physical life. The question that we all will need to deal with at some point was spoken by the Lord Jesus as well, and we need to decide if the response of Simon Peter is ours as well. It is written in *John 6:67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.* I toss and turn in my bed most nights, with a burden on my heart, and that burden is the souls of those that I know and care about that may end up in the lake of fire unless they repent. Most are not waiting upon the Lord to work and going after what they want for themselves, making themselves friends of this world. It is difficult to watch and endure. I cling to the words of Christ and as I search them out in the scriptures, I try to understand and obey them, believing that they alone are the words that give life to me. My heart is even more troubled for those that aren’t doing their own due diligence to follow and obey the Lord Jesus in word and deed. My friends, the true believer cannot quit! I pray for all those who are struggling and more so for those who have walked away. I beg you, Repent and endure, and if there is anything that I can do to help, please do not hesitate to reach out. Closing with a quote by Charles Spurgeon, “If you love anything better than God you are idolaters: if there is anything you would not give up for God it is your idol: if there is anything that you seek with greater fervor than you seek the glory of God, that is your idol, and conversion means a turning from every idol.” My BeLoved, may the grace and peace of the Lord Jesus, the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. In Christ Love, douglas. HE>i. pastord.blog
