Why do you do what you do in serving the Lord, for the glory of man or for the glory of God, and that is if you are doing anything at all? The Prophets were sent by God to warn people to repent and get right with Him. No Prophet in the Holy Bible was sent to make men rich and yet many church leaders want fame, fortune, and popularity. Something went wrong from the interactions of the early church. The early church was characterized by intimate gatherings in homes, a focus on deep personal connections, and helping each other as needed. Sad to say that some people are in ministry for the income and not the outcome. I believe that if the money was taken out of preaching we would truly be able to see who was actually called to minister on the Lord’s behalf. In today’s culture we seem to have more showmen focusing on getting people into the pews at their “churches” to increase their numbers than into Christ as genuine believers. The world does not need actors in faith but living witnesses with burning and genuine conviction to be obedient to God and His word. Many Pastors get people to raise their hands on Sunday and don’t take time to be intentional to mentor and disciple them at some point Monday through Saturday. So many people in the church wear a mask in public but their hearts remain distant, divided and distracted from the confession that they made. A double life is not devotion, it is deception that empties the power of the testimony that was given about their relationship with the Lord Jesus. There is a battle that goes on between my spirit and my flesh at times, as to why I do what I do. There are also times I ask myself “Why?”, “Why am I doing a specific thing because it doesn’t seem that anybody else really cares whether I am involved or not?” Then when I look into the Word, I see why and how I am to live out my life before a Holy God. It is written in *Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.* I think of great men throughout the scriptures that needed strength and gave encouragement in the same manner as I need and give. It is written in *Joshua 22:5 But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”* and also in *1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.* God has and is doing great things for us whether we see it or not and that is one reason we should serve Him with due diligence. Charles Spurgeon wrote, “It is only serving God that is doing immortal work; it is only living for Christ that is living at all”. My prayer for today is simple, “Dear heavenly Father, please use me and all those who truly desire to bring You glory. Show us how to take who we are, what we can do, and use it for a purpose greater than ourselves. Help us to become who You want us to be and not who we think we should be. Help us to live a life of service unto You in all that we do and with “All” of our heart and soul. Help us to glorify You in the good times and the bad. Help us to walk in purity of mind, body, and spirit. Please help us to remember that we should live out our faith in the same way you were crucified, for all the world to see. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, and all of God’s people say, Amen.” Closing thought, when was the last time you drank a glass of water to the glory of God? I know I need to focus on serving God and not my flesh a whole lot more in everything I do, how about you? Please pray for me as I pray for all those who read these words, Amen. My BeLoved, may the grace of the Lord Jesus, and the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. In Christ Love, douglas. HE>i. pastord.blog
