Living in Tucson, it is hot, there are times when a bottle of water is needed to quench one’s thirst. In contrast to faith, I question how many in the church genuinely thirst for God’s word. Think about this, if a bottle of water was mostly pure with only a little bit of cyanide, how much would you drink if you knew about the poison that was in it? In the spiritual arena, we live in a time where it is more convenient to listen and follow after false teachers, heretics, or motivational speakers who spread deadly doctrine or give a good inspirational message than to look into the Word of God seeking to find the truth. To be clear, false teaching is adding to or subtracting from Christianity and heretical beliefs contradict the core tenets of Christianity in a way that destroys the faith. Heresies include denying Christ’s deity, denying the bodily resurrection of Christ, believing that there are many paths to God, etc. Many times important truths are passed over by these would be wolves from the scriptures like what is written in *2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold, 4 and will turn their ears away from the truth and will wander off into myths and man-made fictions [and will accept the unacceptable].* Some of the largest churches in the United States are doing just that, and the people that attend those churches are actively bringing judgment on themselves because they are not doing their due diligence to seek out truth in the Word of God. For the most part everyone knows the difference between right and wrong, the challenge is to discern what is “almost right.” Charles Spurgeon said, “It is a remarkable fact that all the heresies which have arisen in the Christian Church have had a decided tendency to dishonor God and to flatter man.” He also said, “Everyone wants to be saved from the pit, but it is only a child of God who pants to be saved from every false way.” My friends, be hypervigilant for the weeds that poison the wheat are abundant. Some of those who are in the pulpits need to repent or be removed. Guard yourself from false teaching by learning sound doctrine from the Bible by the Holy Spirit’s direction — not internet forums, not Facebook, not podcasts, and especially not smooth talking con men selling books to gain popularity and position. Do what the Bereans did, study the word daily to find the truth. Closing thought, some of those in the pulpits may not be full on false teachers, but if they are not giving the whole counsel of God, or if their motivation is about getting people in the pews to pay the bills for a building that is not the church, for the people of God are the church, be careful about those as well. If you listen intently to those who preach, their sin will become evident by the words they speak. Brethren, we are not an audience in front of the stage to be entertained but the army of God before an altar to be empowered. Think about this, when was the last time you left a service and felt equipped and empowered to do the work of the ministry? My BeLoved, may the grace of the Lord Jesus, and the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. In Christ Love, douglas. HE>i. pastord.blog
