Throughout my life I have witnessed quite a few people who get offended for a variety of different reasons, oftentimes it is simply because they didn’t care about others. Since coming to Christ, I have seen that Satan uses specific, subtle plans to attack individuals who are beginning a new spiritual quest or who are weak in their faith, with his goal being to defeat, discourage, and dishearten the followers of the Lord Jesus. Charles Spurgeon cautioned believers regarding the devil writing that “He will attack you sometimes by force and sometimes by fraud. By might or by sleight he will seek to overcome you, and no unarmed man can stand against him. Never go out without all your armor on, for you can never tell where you may meet the devil. He is not omnipresent, but nobody can tell where he is not, for he and his troops of devils appear to be found everywhere on this earth.” One of the most prominent places that I have seen the devil work is within the walls of the church, sometimes through people in authority. I read a Story About A Man Whose Cell Phone Went Off In Church (Author known to God) – “A man went to church. He forgot to silence his phone and it rang during prayer. The pastor scolded him. The worshippers admonished him after prayers for interrupting the silence. His wife kept on lecturing him on his carelessness all the way home. One could see the shame, embarrassment and humiliation on his face. After all this, he never stepped foot in the church again. That evening, he went to a bar. He was still nervous and trembling. He spilled his drink on the table by accident. The waiter apologized and gave him a napkin to clean himself. The janitor mopped the floor. The female manager offered him a complimentary drink. She also gave him a huge hug and a peck while saying, “Don’t worry man. Who doesn’t make mistakes?” He has not stopped going to that bar since then. Lesson: Sometimes our attitude as believers drives souls to Hell. You can make a difference by how you treat people, especially when they make mistakes.” The enemy of God accuses, afflicts, deceives, and conquers those who are not solidly fixed on Christ and at times it is because of the most pious individuals at the doors of the church. There are times when I am not sure if some people really understand the definition of Love as written about in *John 13:34 I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.”* Think about how you Love, do you have unselfish concern for another? Perhaps the most ignored definition of love in the Bible is this: the emotion felt and actions performed by someone concerned for the well-being of another person regardless of the other’s circumstance. Love involves affection, compassion, care, and self-sacrifice especially when it is “inconvenient.” Spiritual love is unending, not a temporary feeling, emotion, or attraction. It is about being intentional to help draw others closer to the Lord Jesus and not push them away because they don’t fit in for one reason or another. It seems as if the church has decided to only open their doors to those of a certain caliber of individuals instead of those looking for sanctuary, refuge, and safety from spiritual evil/danger and abandoned them in their hour of need. In our flesh we tend to love who we want, when we want, how we want, if we want, and to the extent that we want, and then claim we love like God. When I forget how to love, I look for the Letters in Red and search for how the Lord Jesus loved and do all I can to Love others like that, because there was no greater example of how to Love others than looking at how He did it, by Loving them where they were at.
