Memorial Day in itself is not a “Happy” occasion. The approximate total U.S. casualties during wartime has exceeded 2.8 million people. I have heard it said that “Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you; Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.” The most interesting part of this is that the soldiers who sacrificed their lives throughout time for our safety and well being never knew everyone that they were sacrificing for. And Jesus who sacrificed His life, did it for the most part, for those that hated and despised Him at some point. Love seems to give certain individuals the ability, courage, and strength to give that ultimate sacrifice. I like what is written in *John 15:13 No one has greater love [nor stronger commitment] than to lay down his own life for his friends.* As we go through this day, may we remember what this day is all about, not about a 3 day weekend, a time to have a party and barbecue, it is about Love. Love for our country and love for our family, friends, and neighbors. Beloved brethren, may we also pray for those who are active military now or who will be in the future because they may become a casualty of war for one reason or another. Today as we remember the loss and sacrifice of our country’s past, may God give us His comfort, peace, and protection for our future. For all those who have suffered loss and today is not easy, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Heavenly Father, thank you for Jesus’ sacrifice so that we can have eternity with You, and thank you for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. As not all of us have a military life, as believers, we are soldiers of the cross and I would like to encourage you with the words of Charles Spurgeon, “It is our duty and our privilege to exhaust our lives for Jesus. We are not to be living specimens of men in fine preservation, but living sacrifices, whose lot is to be consumed.” May God bless America, protecting US, guiding US, and comforting US, in Jesus’ name, Amen. In Christ Love, douglas. HE>i. pastord.blog
