Radical Discipleship is not seen by the gifting’s that a person has, it’s not about their ability to teach, their charisma, their good looks, or their ability to make great accomplishments. Being radical in the spiritual realm is being intentional with spending time with the Lord, doing what He tells you to do, going where He calls you to go, walking in the authority He gives you, utilizing the power and might that’s already been invested in you by the Lord Jesus when you became born again. I believe that it’s time for all believers to grow up and put away childish things, and live with a kingdom mindset, seeking His purpose for your life and His alone. The Lord Jesus spoke simply what the characteristics of a Radical Disciple looks like in Matthew. “5:3…the poor in spirit [those devoid of spiritual arrogance, those who regard themselves as insignificant] 4…those who mourn [over their sins and repent] 5…gentle [the kind-hearted, the sweet-spirited, the self-controlled] 6…those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God] 7…the merciful 8…the pure in heart [those with integrity, moral courage, and godly character] 9…the makers and maintainers of peace”. Radical disciples, if they really are genuinely radical, have a common thread—they actually believe their spiritual commitments and live them out boldly. I like what Alistair Begg said, “The terms and conditions of discipleship involve a radical transformation: the denial of self and the taking up of the cross, which changes my view of life and what is worth chasing in life.” For me, the greatest example of a radical discipleship is to steadfastly follow the true meaning of Jesus as Lord in loving the people that feel they are outcast, the ones that society has made feel untouchable, by letting them know how much Jesus loves them and that you love them too!
