I have been inspired, convicted, challenged, and even brought to tears as I have read different quotes from dead saints and see how their words have brought to clarity the issues between the Christian life and the world. Leonard Ravenhill said, “I’m embarrassed to be part of the Church of Jesus today, because I believe it’s an embarrassment to a holy God! Most of our joy is clapping our hands and having a good time, and afterwards we’re talking all the drivel of the world. Oh, to be lost in Him; to be consumed in Him!” These words have caused me to contemplate my own worship of the Lord Jesus and my attitude before God while at church. I have also fervently prayed over what Keith Green said, “If your heart takes more pleasure in reading novels, or watching TV, or going to the movies, or talking to friends, rather than just sitting alone with God and embracing Him, sharing His cares and His burdens, weeping and rejoicing with Him, then how are you going to handle forever and ever in His presence…? You’d be bored to tears in heaven, if you’re not ecstatic about God now! ” As I see the significance of the words these men spoke, I desire to have a deeper, richer relationship with the Lord, but I still fall short way to often. As I search the scriptures, I find peace when I recognize how my relationship with my Lord Jesus should look, seeing my part and His, especially when I focus on all that “He” does. It is written in *Psalms 23:1 The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack. 2 He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. 3 He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.* It is alway the Lord who is doing for me, for you, for all who confess Him as Lord. My BeLoved, please pray for me as I pray for those who, like me, desire to spend more time in His presence and less time being consumed with the cares and lust of the world. Sometimes my time with the Lord Jesus seems too short and wasted, oh, but to be lost in Him, to be consumed in Him, this is my heart’s desire and my life’s greatest challenge.
