“Preach the Gospel, Die, and be Forgotten” are words that convict my heart and show me what my purpose before God truly is as well as my significance in the world. As I share parts of my life through writing the devotionals that I do, the struggles that I go through and live with, my desire is not that people look at my situation and see my saga, it is that people look at my God and see why I survived to fight another day. The reason for my joy is written in *John 3:29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the groomsman who stands by and listens to him rejoices greatly and heartily on account of the bridegroom’s voice. This then is my pleasure and joy, and it is now complete.* There are many well-known “preachers” throughout our world that have a message of “I”. “Look at what I have accomplished. I have a megachurch. I have beautiful homes, fancy cars, and a lot of money in the bank. I am famous with millions of views on social media.” John the Baptist had a different message than many of these modern day false teachers, con-men, frauds and the financially motivated. It is written in, *John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease. [He must grow more prominent; I must grow less so.]* Charles Spurgeon said, “You will never glory in God till first of all God has killed your glorying in yourself.” Beloved, we must seek nothing for ourselves, no seat of honor or hope of fame. We must be content to suffer, to die, and to be forgotten for the glory of God. If your ambition and motivation is anything short of exalting the name of the Lord Jesus, you’ve got it all wrong. Stay small in your own eyes because when we humble ourselves we have the ability to earn the respect of unbelievers through our own quiet faith and the power of the Holy Spirit. I have but one passion—it is He; it is He alone. Let my name be lost forever, but Jesus’ live on for generations without end because of the faithfulness of my God. No matter how my life goes, blessings or curses, I will sing of the goodness of God and His glory, never my own. In Christ, Douglas.
