Calvary Tucson East Campus once a month Friday Potluck is here. The word “potluck” means exactly what it seems to mean, a meal of chance. More importantly though it is a time to gather together as the body of Christ for food, fellowship, worship, and the Word. This is a time to come together as a community and share our individualized contributions, conversation, and something that I believe that has been taken for granted, the presence of other saints that are living in the same type of struggles that we are. I have heard it said that we all may be in the same storm but we are not all in the same boat. Some have yachts, others may have canoes, while others are barely holding on to a life buoy. While in fellowship we get to know each other on a more personal level, not just in passing during service while on our way to the coffee shop or bathroom. I consider how the first century church gathered and desired to have “koinonia,” an intimate spiritual communion and participative sharing in a common religious commitment and spiritual community. It is written in *Acts 2:46 Day after day they met in the temple [area] continuing with one mind, and breaking bread in various private homes. They were eating their meals together with joy and generous hearts, 47 praising God continually, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord kept adding to their number daily those who were being saved.* I enjoy that type of fellowship. There are few opportunities these days for people who are not family to share a meal and more importantly come together in Christ and not in crisis. It’s easy to get lost in a crowd (“big church”). But we connect intimately in community (a small group). It’s the relationships we make within the context of the small groups that help keep us closer to Jesus. This is our way to live out what the Lord Jesus was talking about in *John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.* If you can’t come please be praying for us, and if you can, bring something you like to eat just in case no one else brings something you like to eat. Thank you my beloved for your love, encouragement, and support. In Christ, Douglas.
