Friday the 13th of October, 2023 is a day like no other in recent history. Hamas has called for their followers to commit disturbing acts of violence across the world in a form of solidarity. Security around the world has been ramped up. The level of hatred and evil displayed is extremely heartbreaking. It is unlike anything we have seen in decades and has deeply shaken the population of the world. The church is trying to cling to any glimmers of hope it can find, and the truth of the matter is that nothing about this situation will end up good for everybody involved. But there is a strong desire to see the Lord use these events to draw people to Himself. We must pray for the leaders, the hostages, and especially for those who have lost loved ones on both sides of this conflict. We also need to pray that America, as a Christian nation surrenders to God’s plan and purpose for our country as He sees fit. We cannot see His purposes, but He is sovereign over all and that should bring us peace. I am unsure of what type of Call to Action is needed except pleading before God for His will to be done. With all that is going on in the world I am drawn to *Psalms 73:25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. 26 My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. 27 For indeed, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry. 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.* We, as children of God cannot give into hate, tribalism, or revenge, we must pray because of the deep sadness and anger in our own heart’s over the horrific loss of innocent lives on both sides. A simple reminder of grace is found in *Lamentations 3:22 It is because of the Lord’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, Because His [tender] compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; Great and beyond measure is Your faithfulness.* May God have mercy on us all.
