Yesterday around 5pm another monsoon came through the east side of Tucson with 65 mph winds, hail, and flooding rains. Roofs were torn off of some buildings, trees blow over, debris was everywhere, and the power went out for thousands of people including us. With it being in the hundreds by day it didn’t take too long for the temperature in our home to start to rise. The children were getting overheated so they started taking cool showers one by one. Unable to cook any food, my son-in-law made a trek to a Taco Bell that still had power and we had a quaint dinner while using our Ryobi cordless flashlight and shop fan. We did our best to make everyone as comfortable as possible, we prayed, and waited for the power to come back on. It did come back on a little after midnight. Throughout the evening we prayed and had peace because of certain verses like what is written in *Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. 7 And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].* God did give us peace in the aftermath. This morning as we woke one by one we were all thankful that we stayed safe through the night. I haven’t made it outside yet to see what kind of damage we accrued but I am sure that God will help us no matter what I find. Praying for all those who were affected and are dealing with whatever damage they have to deal with. For my family, storms help us to remember and appreciate what is really important, each other. Storms also teach us valuable lessons about ourselves, others, and the lives we have created.
