Tucson’s monsoon hit heavily last night from which our city received much-needed rain. Many rejoiced, but for me it brought some heartache. One of the ways my family is supported is by helping others lighten their load and removing unwanted stuff. Some of it we repurpose for our home and some of it we try to sell to supplement our income. For those that don’t know, we have some children with special needs in our home that need time and attention that inhibits my daughter or I from working regular jobs. Yesterday I received a truck and trailer full of items that I was not able to store quickly enough before the deluge of rain hit. We are thankful that this summer our home has not been pummeled like we were the last few years but also understand that it will be what it will be. Compared to some of the health concerns that have become formidable and other trials that we are facing, this isn’t really that big of a deal. We have come to the place where we only do what we can and after the storm comes to pass we see what can be dried out and saved, and discard what can’t. It is only stuff after all that someone else didn’t want. Everything that is really important to us was safe and protected, the people in our home. There is a verse about God’s sovereignty that brings peace to me in whatever situation I am going through, it is written in *Matthew 5:45…He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him].* I believe that I have been obedient to fulfill God’s calling on my life to help others in their time of need. Many times it has ended in brokenness and loss, so this season is nothing new. There are many storms that other people are facing that are far more severe than what we are going through and our prayers are with them. No matter what storms I face I will always praise God for being there not only in the midst of the storms to give me peace, but on the other side to give me strength and perseverance to clean up the debris in the aftermath. We trust that God will not only provide for us but also give us the ability to endure our painful circumstances, understanding that sometimes suffering is part of God’s plan to bring about a greater good. We entirely trust our lives to the care and providence of God, whether in the sunshine or the storm, for Jesus is still Lord of all. I like what Charles Spurgeon said, “I thank my God for every storm that has wrecked me upon the Rock, Jesus Christ.” Sometimes the storms do not come for destruction but to clear a path, so I trust that God will carry us through the storms of life praying that however it ends up He will get the glory. We know that God is with us, and when we feel that God is all we have, we really do have everything we need. My friends, thank you for your prayers and support, my love be with you all in Christ Jesus.
