My father went into glory more than ten years ago and yet my memories of our final times together are as vivid as if it happened yesterday. Days right before he passed away, the last time I saw him alive and responsive, we talked about the life we had and the life we should’ve lived, we read the bible, we laughed, we joked around. The last words that I can remember saying to him were, “I love you” and “I will see you soon”. I knew his time was short here on the Earth, but I also knew without a doubt where he was going, heaven, and I would see him again. I have a friend who did not have the same blessing. His last words to his father were, “I hate you”. Shortly after that, his father was stabbed at a bar, went to the hospital and died. For most of us, the length of time that we have here on Earth is unknown but we understand that it is inevitable that it will end sooner than later. It is written in *James 4:14 Yet you do not know [the least thing] about what may happen in your life tomorrow. [What is secure in your life?] You are merely a vapor [like a puff of smoke or a wisp of steam from a cooking pot] that is visible for a little while and then vanishes [into thin air].* My encouragement to all who actively read what I write is to make sure that your love for those in your life is genuine and that you don’t waste what little time we actually have on the things of this world that have no eternal value. If you are not doing what you know in your heart is right before God, what you know is best for you and your loved ones, change it today before it is too late. Prioritize cherishing every moment you can with those you love most because you never know if that will be your last with them. Towards the end of my father’s life he told my mother that he was sorry for the things he did and how he treated her, and that if he could do it all over again, he would do it differently. In the end, he really regretted the changes he didn’t make early on because the pain from those choices affected him to his dying breath. Friends, in these uncertain times, may we live without regrets and love those around us with the love that God has shown us in and through the Lord Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit. To all my family and “friends”, I want you to truly comprehend these words, cause God only knows if they will be my last, “God loves you and I love you too.” pastord.blog
