“Hypokrisis” is a Greek word where we get our word hypocrite from. In the acting and theater arena, hypocrisy means “jealous”, “play-acting”, “acting out”. In religious circles it means “A person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion, a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.” I believe that we all have a little hypocrisy in each of us, at least I know that I do. The larger problem is that there are many that go to church, confess Jesus as Lord who are actively sinning, openly before God and man, without conviction of the Holy Spirit. As I come to grips with my own wretchedness before God I pray over what is written in *Matthew 15:8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me…* Believe it or not I have talked to individuals who read their Bibles, pray everyday, minister to the world around them, even share Bible stories with children in their own homes, while living a life that is contradictory to the Word of God to the deepest levels. I believe that God is in the process of separating His children from the world and sanctifying them. One of the most important questions that I am concerned with the answer is, “Will the body of Christ faithfully hold on to the truth of God’s word or will they compromise with the culture?” There is a quote by Charles Spurgeon that brings conviction to me and I pray to all who read these words. “Christians can never sin cheaply; they pay a heavy price for iniquity. Transgression destroys peace of mind, obscures fellowship with Jesus, hinders prayer, brings darkness over the soul; therefore be not the serf and bondman of sin.” Friends, the line is being drawn and you will soon need to decide, are you a child of God or a child of the devil? I want to remind those that knowingly, willingly disregard the Words of God and serve the flesh and not the Lord Jesus, God chastens those He loves. It is written in *Hebrews 12:6 For the Lord disciplines and corrects those whom He loves, And He punishes every son whom He receives and welcomes [to His heart].” 7 You must submit to [correction for the purpose of] discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 Now if you are exempt from correction and without discipline, in which all [of God’s children] share, then you are illegitimate children and not sons [at all].* In simple terms, if you are not being convicted by the Holy Spirit about your sin, you “must” question if you are Christian or not. If you are playing the “Hypocrite” Stop It, Repent, and surrender your life to the Lordship of Jesus today, tomorrow may be too late.
